Wes Russell practices primarily in the area of professional liability defense with an emphasis on defending hospitals, doctors, other health care professionals, lawyers, and accountants. In addition to this work, he also practices in the areas of commercial litigation, governmental powers, and risk management, and has represented several hospitals in disputes regarding medical staff memberships and the credentialing of physicians.

Mr. Russell has extensive litigation experience in the trial and appellate courts of the Commonwealth. In more than a decade of defending health care providers, he has been exposed to a wide variety of medical issues and has become familiar with various areas of medicine. This medical knowledge has allowed Mr. Russell to obtain excellent results for clients from a variety of medical specialties. For example, in the last few years, he has obtained dismissals or judgments for emergency room physicians, pathologists, orthopedists, gastroenterologists, otolaryngologists, pulmonologists, neurosurgeons, psychiatrists, nurses, and others.

In addition to his trial work, Mr. Russell has a growing appellate practice, working on appeals (including cases referred from other attorneys) in the Court of Appeals, the Supreme Court of Virginia, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. This included successfully representing the citizens who challenged the regional taxes imposed by the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority in Marshall v. NVTA, 275 Va. 419, 657 S.E2d 71 (Va. 2008).

Given his extensive knowledge of Virginia Civil Procedure, Mr. Russell is often consulted by outside attorneys on a wide variety of issues from trial/appellate practice to questions of governmental immunity. He has given CLE presentations on such topics.

Mr. Russell began his legal career as a judicial clerk for the judges of the Circuit Court of the City of Richmond. He is admitted to practice in all Virginia Courts, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.<-->
