McSweeney, Crump, Childress & Temple, P.C. congratulates its partner, Wesley G. Russell, jr., on his appointment as Virginia Deputy Attorney General for Civil Litigation. (1/10)

thamer e. "chip" temple III will be the featured speaker at the November meeting of the Virginia Association of Nonprofit Homes for the Aging. His remarks will focus on the proposed new ADAAA regulations, social networking at work, and wage calculation issues. (10/09)

thamer e. "chip" temple III was installed as President of the West Richmond Rotary Club. He has been on the Board of Directors for that organization since 2003. (7/09)

thamer e. "chip" temple III was sworn in as President-Elect of the Bar Association of the City of Richmond, the second-oldest voluntary bar association in the United States. Chip will become President of the Association in June 2010. (6/09)

G. William “Bill” Norris, Jr. was recently elected President by the Board of Trustees for the Virginia Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (“LLS”) for 2009-2010.  Mr. Norris has served on the LLS Board since 2005.

R. Paul Childress, Jr. participated in a risk management seminar held in Chicago that addressed issues related in part to the adoption by the AICPA of the Risk Assessment Standards (SAS 104-111) and Fair Value Accounting under SFAS No. 157.

R. Paul Childress, Jr and thamer e. "chip" temple III have been selected to appear in the 2010 edition of The Best Lawyers in America. Paul has once again been selected in the specialty of Professional Malpractice, and Chip was selected in the specialty of Labor and Employment Law.

David R. Ruby participated as a speaker at a recent Lorman seminar entitled "Commercial and Real Estate Loan Documents in Virginia:  More Than Just Papers."  Mr. Ruby ’s topic included enforcing loan and security agreements under the Uniform Commercial Code and creditor rights and strategies in bankruptcy. 

Michele a. Mulligan was a guest speaker at a legislative update seminar sponsored by the Central Virginia Chapter of the Community Association Institute in August. Ms. Mulligan, along with three other speakers, addressed new legislative changes affecting community associations in central Virginia, including House Bill 516.

Patrick m. McSweeney, Wesley g. Russell, jr. and Kristie g. Haynes successfully argued to the Virginia Supreme Court that sovereign immunity did not bar two users of the Dulles Toll Road from suing the Secretary of Transportation to enjoin the executive branch from deeding the Dulles Toll Road to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority without explicit authorization from the General Assembly. Wesley g. Russell, jr. and Patrick m. McSweeney successfully argued to the Virginia Supreme Court that the General Assembly's delegation of its taxing power to the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority violated the Virginia Constitution. READ MORE> >

Wesley g. Russell, jr. and g. william "Bill" Norris, jr. recently obtained a defense verdict in the Circuit Court of the City of Richmond for a pulmonary critical care group. READ MORE> >

R. Paul Childress, Jr. and Nathan A. Colarusso successfully defended a Richmond-area attorney in a legal malpractice case filed in Hanover County Circuit Court.  During the two-day trial, held in mid-June, several interesting legal issues were argued, particularly one related to a novel defense related to construction litigation.

Beverley L. Crump and Catherine C. Ayres were re-elected to the Executive Committee of the Business Law Section of the Bar Association of the City of Richmond for the 2008-2009 term.  Mr. Crump and Ms. Ayres were charter members of the Executive Committee, which was recently formed in 2007. Mr. Crump was the Chairman of the Business Law Section for the 2007-2008 term.

R. Paul Childress, Jr. was named as Chair of the Virginia State Bar's Special Committee on Lawyer Malpractice Insurance by Bar President Manuel A. Capsalis.
